BMW - Production Line Commissioning

Challenge:

BMW faced the challenge of programming and commissioning their new production line. This required a thorough debugging of the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programs, I/O checks, hardware setup, and process optimization. Additionally, the Human-Machine Interface (HMI) needed to be adjusted and developed according to client requirements. The BMW team also needed to provide training for line keepers and functional documentation for the production line.

Solution:

To solve this problem, BMW employed a team of engineers to work on the following solutions:

- Debugging and commissioning of the PLC programs
- Completion of start-up for the production line
- Adjustment and development of HMI according to client requirements
- I/O checks to ensure smooth operation
- Hardware setup for optimal performance
- Process optimization for efficient production
- Provision of functional documentation for the production line

Result:

The commissioning of the new production line was a success, with the team completing start-up and production support. The debugging and commissioning of the PLC programs ensured smooth operation, while the adjustment and development of the HMI provided an efficient interface for line keepers. The hardware setup contributed to the production line's optimal performance, and process optimization resulted in efficient production. The training and functional documentation provided for the line keepers ensured they were well-equipped to operate and maintain the production line. The use of advanced production technologies, such as gluing, laser welding, and automation with SIMATIC S7-300/400 and ABB robots, helped to streamline production and improve efficiency. In conclusion, BMW's successful commissioning of the production line is a testament to the company's commitment to innovation and quality.

Technology:

The team used advanced technologies for a complex production process such as gluing, laser welding, hemming, brushing, and framing to automate the production lines. They also used optical quality tests to ensure the quality of the production process. The team used SIEMENS SIMATIC S7-1500 PLC and TIA Portal V13 software to develop the standard function blocks. They used WinCC, WinMOD, and RF Suite for simulation purposes. Finally, they used RobotStudio to test the programming.
