BMW - Advanced Telecommunication Module

Challenge:

BMW faced the challenge of creating a new Advanced Telecommunication Module that would serve as the car's interface to the outside world. The module needed to facilitate data and voice communication with various entities, such as the OEM server and backend, public safety answering points, OEM call centers, and networks for data exchange to support infotainment and comfort functions. Additionally, the module required a GNSS receiver that supported GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo satellite navigation systems for position determination to be used with further services.

Solution:

BMW's solution to this problem was to create a new Advanced Telecommunication Module that enabled data and voice communication between the car and the outside world, as well as provided network access services for data exchange. The module was designed to exchange diagnostic data between the vehicle and the OEM server and backend. It also facilitated voice connections between the vehicle and public safety answering points or the OEM call centers. The module's interface to networks allowed for data exchange to support infotainment and comfort functions, such as weather, maps, and emails for in-car use. The GNSS receiver provided accurate positioning information to be used with further services.

Result:

The creation of the Advanced Telecommunication Module allowed BMW vehicles to have a more comprehensive interface to the outside world. With the module's ability to exchange diagnostic data, voice communication, and network access services, BMW could provide a better driving experience for its customers. Additionally, the GNSS receiver's accurate positioning information provided more reliable navigation services. The project was completed with the direct cooperation of customers and suppliers, ensuring all deliveries were made on time. The workload was managed between all teams spread around the world, and detailed project planning and controlling (time, milestones, and resources) ensured the project's success.

In conclusion, BMW's creation of the Advanced Telecommunication Module showcases the company's commitment to innovation and providing the best possible experience for its customers. The project's success was due to the careful management of resources, direct cooperation with stakeholders, and the use of cutting-edge technologies.
